Ukrainian Marriage Custom

A Ukrainian bridal is a lengthy affair with numerous festivals and norms. The Rushnyk ceremony, in which the couple are draped ceremonially, marks the end of their lives. The parents of the bride and groom give their recognized approval to the union during this ceremony. Traditional folk songs provide entertainment throughout the night, frequently playing enchanting melodies that make people dance the day away. One of my favorites games is when the newlyweds waltz while carrying a loaf of bread on their minds to demonstrate that they are sturdy enough as a few to overcome any challenges.

The bride’s marriage festival do typically take place two to four weeks before the exact bride festival. The matchmaking and viewing had taking area. The man would visit the girl’s home to manifest himself, his gifts, and, if the family wanted, ask for her hand in marriage along with his father, elders, and godfathers.

A pumpkins would be presented to the couple’s celebration as a sign of his disapproval if the child refused. The females’ families would get ready for the marriage at this time. They would adorn their homes with flowers and rushnyky (embroidered towels ) and prepare a lot of food.

The bride’s and groom’s families bring their marriage wheat, which is baked by women who are specially selected for this role, to the Korovai festival, which is the centerpiece of the bride. The bread is typically decorated with flowers made of dough, such as species, roses, and periwinkles, or clematis, which has white blossoms that turn into red berries. Who among the few is said to be the head of the household if they bite off the larger part of korovai without using their palms?
